Highest Mountains of the World

According to a rough estimation about 12% of the world population lives in the mountain areas. Interesting point is that all the top 10 mountains are situated in the continent of Asia and except Karakoram all of above mentioned mountains come into the range of great, middle and sub Himalayas. The above listed mountains lies on the land surface above the sea level but some highest mountains of the world also found under the oceans and one of the world largest under ocean mountain is Mauna Kea in the Hawaii and if we compare,  it is greater than the Mount Everest. The Mount Everest is tallest mountain from the above sea level.

There are five Oceans in the world which is about 71% of the Earth. The total ocean area in our world is 335,258,000 sq km. measurement detail of each ocean in meters, square kilometers and oceans’ depth points with their size are presented in the following table:

Continents by Estimated Population

World population is tremendously growing since 1350. In 1804 the first billion of world population completed after 200,000 years but the growth of population accelerated between 1804 to 2011and as a result 6 billion people increased in only 207 years. So it is easily concluded that the world population is increasing very fast. There are seven continents on the planet of earth that bears a total load of about 6.91 billion people approximately. World population by continents according to Reference Bureau 2010 World Population Data Sheet and the World Fact book summarized here:

  • Asia approx population is 4,157,300,000
  • Africa estimated population 1,030,400,000
  • Europe total population is about 738,600,000
  • North America total estimated population equal to 461,114,000
  • South America approx population is 390,700,000
  • Antarctica is only the continent that population is 0.
  • Australia & Oceania keeps a total population of 36,700,000

World’s Continents by Size


Our world is divided into seven 7 continents Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia/Oceania.  Name of continents and size of continents in square kilometers (sq. km) is given against each:


  • Asia is the world largest continent that spread on a total area of 44,391,162 sq. km (17,139,445 Sq. miles).
  • Africa is the 2nd largest continent that spread on a total area of 30,244,049 sq. km (11,677,239 Sq. miles).
  • North America  is the 3rd largest continent that spread on a total area of 24,247,039 sq. km (9,361,791 Sq. miles)
  • South America  is the 4th largest continent that spread on a total area of 17,821,029 sq. km (6,880,706 Sq. miles)
  • Antarctica is the 5th largest continent that spread on a total area of 14,245,000 sq. km (5,500,000 Sq. miles)
  • Europe is the 6th continent that spread on a total area of 10,354,636 sq. km (3,997,929 Sq. miles)
  • Australia/Oceania  is the smallest continent that spread on a total area of 7,686,884 sq. Km (2,967,909 Sq. miles)

Total land area of all continents approximately 148,989,799 Sq. Km (92,095,590 Square miles). About 7 billion of human being lives in the world. It is important to note that Antarctica is only continent where is nor life and not country found and the population is zero. Near to some people there are six continent and they use term Eurasia is used to represent Europe and Asia as a one continent in some parts of the world. Likewise the term Americas is used in some areas to represent both North and South America but it is widely agreed that there are seven continents. 

Countries by Literacy Rate


The world celebrate “international literacy day” on 8th September each year. Literacy is basic right for all and therefore it is responsibility of every state and individual to get education and play their role in increase of literacy that is compulsory for social and human development moreover literacy helps to reduce poverty, bring new opportunities, to help in maintaining population strength and to reduce child mortality. It is also very important to eradicate discrimination and for the guaranteed sustainable development. According to the UNESCO (United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) 67.4 million children are out of school in the following table literacy indicators are given country wise with respective age group and year of estimation.
