World’s Continents by Size

Our world is divided into seven 7 continents Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia/Oceania.  Name of continents and size of continents in square kilometers (sq. km) is given against each:

  • Asia is the world largest continent that spread on a total area of 44,391,162 sq. km (17,139,445 Sq. miles).
  • Africa is the 2nd largest continent that spread on a total area of 30,244,049 sq. km (11,677,239 Sq. miles).
  • North America  is the 3rd largest continent that spread on a total area of 24,247,039 sq. km (9,361,791 Sq. miles)
  • South America  is the 4th largest continent that spread on a total area of 17,821,029 sq. km (6,880,706 Sq. miles)
  • Antarctica is the 5th largest continent that spread on a total area of 14,245,000 sq. km (5,500,000 Sq. miles)
  • Europe is the 6th continent that spread on a total area of 10,354,636 sq. km (3,997,929 Sq. miles)
  • Australia/Oceania  is the smallest continent that spread on a total area of 7,686,884 sq. Km (2,967,909 Sq. miles)

Total land area of all continents approximately 148,989,799 Sq. Km (92,095,590 Square miles). About 7 billion of human being lives in the world. It is important to note that Antarctica is only continent where is nor life and not country found and the population is zero. Near to some people there are six continent and they use term Eurasia is used to represent Europe and Asia as a one continent in some parts of the world. Likewise the term Americas is used in some areas to represent both North and South America but it is widely agreed that there are seven continents.
